Lizbeth Luna Lopez was born in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to North Carolina when she was ten years old. Guided by her aunt, who had already made North Carolina home, they found what they were looking for: quiet streets, cleaner air, and the space to slow down and breathe. Today, Lizbeth and her family enjoy the comfort of a spacious home and a small backyard patio where they gather, reflect, and dream about the future.

Although Lizbeth is still a student, her dedication to her community and her future is already clear. In high school, she poured her time and energy into service—cleaning up neighborhoods, planting flowers, volunteering at shelters, mentoring younger students, and serving as a student ambassador. Every action, no matter how small, reflected her joy in helping others and her commitment to making a difference. Lizbeth is working toward a future in dentistry and is determined to continue her education all the way through dental school. Lizbeth believes Latine and Hispanic communities enrich this country in countless ways—through hard work, creativity, and cultural joy. From entrepreneurs and healthcare workers to artists and educators, she sees how every job, big or small, plays a vital role. “All jobs are meaningful,” she says, “because they’re all part of the puzzle that keeps our community running and thriving.”

More than anything, Lizbeth believes in the power of taking a chance. She hadn’t planned to apply to Harvard, thinking it was out of reach, until her mother encouraged her to try. When she was accepted, it felt like a dream.

“I want people to know they shouldn’t count themselves out,” Lizbeth says. “You don’t have to come from wealth or privilege to chase your dreams. Most things are possible with hard work, dedication, and the courage to take a risk.”

Más que nada, Lizbeth cree en el valor de atreverse a soñar. No había planeado postularse a Harvard, pensando que estaba fuera de su alcance, hasta que su mamá la animó a intentarlo. Cuando recibió su carta de aceptación, no lo podía creer.

“Quiero que las personas sepan que no deben excluirse a sí mismas,” dice Lizbeth. “No necesitas venir de la riqueza o el privilegio para perseguir tus sueños. La mayoría de las cosas son posibles con trabajo duro, dedicación y el valor de tomar un riesgo.”
